I Bought an Abandoned SaaS for $1,250 and Earned It Back in Weeks

In 2024, I built an AI room design app, but I had zero traffic.

I had the idea to look for an existing SaaS that had traffic, but where the product was abandoned or needed to be replaced.

A ton of SaaS were launched on Product Hunt in 2023, so I went ahead and looked through all of the listings by hand.

One of the domains was myroomdesigner.ai, and I found the owner. I was able to find his private domain and email.

I wrote him a cold email and several follow-ups. No replies. His DMs on Twitter were turned off.

After a few weeks of not being able to reach him, a tweet of his popped up in my feed. This was my chance. I replied to him, and he answered!

From there, everything went smoothly. He had almost no revenue and didn’t want to work on it anymore. I happily paid $1,250, and the acquisition was done.

I launched my new app on the new domain and had traffic within a few hours. The first buyers started to show up, and I made my best investment ever.

In just a few weeks, I made more in revenue than what I bought the domain for. Even after two years, it still works and brings in new users every week.

I worked on creating a great product and SEO, so the traffic soon started to grow. It was easier for me to stay motivated as I had traffic from the moment I bought the domain.
