Elon says apps and phones die in 5 years. I already work that way.

He says apps and the OS go away. What is left is one voice device with local AI, connected to your services and to cloud AI.

I wanted a glance at that future, so I put it together with what exists today.

The best voice interface right now is the new chatgpt one that came out a few weeks ago. I run it in the desktop app on my mac, in codex mode.

That gives it my files, my code and my browser.

Voice is my main driver. I talk, and codex coordinates the work and manages my other machines too.

It feels like talking to a coworker in a meeting.

I don’t touch files. I don’t open the browser. I don’t touch anything.

It’s not tied to my desk either. The chatgpt remote feature on my phone connects by voice to the same mac.

Elon’s future is here. What’s missing is the hardware, and I think the iphone is what gets replaced by a voice phone.
