3 Reasons to Measure Your Life in Weeks, Not Years

I sat down and filled in the little boxes of my life so far. I could easily see where and how I spent my weeks in the past. Next week is coming up shortly, and it pushes me to think about how I want to spend it.

The length of a week is short enough to not get overwhelmed and also to feel the progress happening.

New Year’s resolutions fail

Every January the gym fills up with New Year’s resolutions, and soon they fade away.

A year has 52 weeks. We set expectations too high, lose motivation, lose track, and give up. Yearly plans are bad for staying motivated and closing the feedback loop.

One week is a much shorter measurement for a new challenge.

Weeks can be stacked

A monthly goal is a set of 4 weeks that can be easily followed through and tracked. The feedback of small wins helps us stick to the plan and finish it.

Small achievements feel great, and we can push through much easier.

Weekends build in a natural reset

One week has a phase of work and a balanced end. Thinking in weeks makes it easier to plan time with family and friends next to work goals.

Next week is one of those boxes. I’d rather choose how it gets filled.
